Which Foot Needs to Move Next?

A blue-purple clay heart, put together again in pieces, with a golden light glowing from within.

Neptune-Pluto sextile

Some things dissolve through grace. Some have to be faced.

You know the feeling. You’re in a bookstore, and a conversation starts with a stranger, easy and unexpectedly alive. You talk longer than either of you meant to. Something in you wakes up. And then you both walk out the door, and neither of you asked for the other’s number.

Nothing happened. But something was possible. That’s the ache of it—not that it went wrong, but that it never got the chance.

This week, the sky is holding open one of those moments. Neptune and Pluto, two of astrology’s slowest-moving bodies, meet in an exact sextile on September 15. A sextile is that bookstore conversation: real chemistry, no guarantee. It doesn’t insist. It offers.

What you do with the opening is yours.

The Vast and the Depths

Neptune takes us toward the vast: spirituality, surrender, grace, the sense that we are part of a wholeness larger than our own story.

Pluto takes us into the depths: psychology, shadow, intensity, what has been buried, defended against, or left unresolved.

In my own life, these have never felt like separate paths.

Pluto is the willingness to pick up the pickaxe and start digging into the painful places—our histories, our wounds, the patterns we’d rather not see.

And when Neptune sees that willingness made real through action, it sometimes arrives with an ocean of grace, clearing away in great swaths what might have taken years with the pickaxe alone.

The work is still mine to begin. I have to show my intent through action. But I am no longer doing all of it alone.

Neptune accelerates Pluto.

Pluto does something equally important for Neptune. It keeps us honest.

I can meditate for hours and feel beautifully centered. But if a sour look from someone, or one old comment from a family member, can knock me completely off that center, I know there’s more to meet. Meditation alone hasn’t undone the trigger.

Some things dissolve through grace. Some have to be faced.

Even Frodo, from Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, doesn’t get to Mordor on courage alone. There are orcs between here and the fire, and running from all of them isn’t the plan any more than fighting every one of them is.

The aim was never the battles. The aim is to dissolve the thing that perpetuates such a world.

That longing for freedom is Neptune. Pluto is the reality check that says: You’re not there yet.

Pluto charges Neptune with honesty. Neptune charges Pluto with grace, speed, and fewer battle wounds.

This Is Not a Side Note

Neptune and Pluto have been within a two-degree sextile for much of 1947–1990, and they came within reach of each other again around 2022, remaining there through roughly 2034.

That means a remarkable number of people alive today were born carrying this relationship in their natal charts. And even if you weren’t, you’ve lived among generations carrying it—or you’re alive now while it is active again.

In astrological terms, this pairing has been part of the signature of the people who raised us, the cultures and institutions we’ve inherited, and for many, many of us, our own inner lives.

Perhaps part of what these generations are carrying is the work of bringing psychology and spirituality back into relationship—not inner work as a private achievement, but as something that changes what we bring into our families, our relationships, our communities, and the generations who come after us.

Which Foot Moves Next?

To me, Neptune and Pluto are two legs on the same person. We can move using only one, but we’re hopping. Eventually, it becomes exhausting.

Sometimes the next step is surrender. Sometimes it’s confrontation. Sometimes we need to remember that we are larger than our pain. Sometimes we need to stop trying to rise above it long enough to actually meet it.

The goal isn’t endless self-examination. And it isn’t spiritual fantasy.

The goal is freedom—to become less governed by what once controlled us, more able to return to ourselves, and to participate in life with less defense and more aliveness.

So perhaps the question this week is simple: Which foot needs to move next?

Don’t Let This One Walk Out the Door

Possibility needs participation. That’s true of a sextile, and it’s true of the work in front of you.

Vision to Form is a six-week experiential journey for people standing at the edge of a possible future—something you want to create, change, begin, or bring more fully into your life. We explore the futures available to you, discover which one actually feels alive, and work with what helps or hinders you in bringing it into form. Several people from the last round have asked to return. The next cohort begins October 3, 2026 at 11am ET.

I’m also gathering interest for Venus RX: An Experiential Journey through the Myth of Eros and Psyche—a living exploration of what happens when love stops being an idea and becomes a real encounter. Psyche is drawn toward Eros, loses him when she insists on seeing what is real, and is transformed through the impossible tasks that follow. We’ll use the myth alongside Venus retrograde to explore love, desire, rupture, and what it takes to become equal to the encounter with love itself.

If either one has a pull on you, hit reply and tell me: Vision to Form, Venus RX, or both. That’s it.

Get their number this time.

With love,
Meghna

P.S. Last week, I was in Chicago presenting at the United Astrology Conference. Some of you joined The Riches Within after one of those sessions—welcome. I’ll send a separate email soon with some of what we explored together there. And to everyone who’s been here longer: thank you for continuing to open these. If something here is useful, hit reply and tell me—or tell me what you’d like me to explore next.

P.P.S. For those who want the astronomy: Neptune and Pluto make an exact sextile 49 times in three waves—1950–1956, 1976–1986, and now 2026–2032—because of their extraordinarily slow and elliptical orbits. This video walks through the pattern, and this article goes deeper into the mechanics.

Spaces are limited.

Your chart can show where the deeper work is concentrated—and where more freedom may be possible. Book a reading with me to explore it.

Your Riches Within

What if the bravest thing you could do was stop judging yourself—and simply trust who you already are? Each week, I take something real happening in the sky and turn it into one honest question. I don't hand you the answer — I'm usually still sitting with it myself.
